Sketch your cosmos flower outline.
The first step is to sketch your cosmos flower outline. Start by drawing a small circle in the center of your paper. This will be the center of your flower. Then, draw five petals coming out from the center of the circle. Make each petal slightly curved, and try to make them all different sizes. Once you have your five petals, draw another small circle in the center of the flower. This will be the stamen, which is the part of the flower that produces pollen. Finally, add some leaves coming off of the stem of your flower. You can make them any shape you like, but they should be long and slender.
Now that you have your sketch complete, you are ready to start drawing your cosmos flower in detail!
Draw the center of the flower.
Start by drawing a small circle in the center of your paper. This will be the center of your cosmos flower. Then, make six small lines coming out from the center of the circle. These lines will be the petals of your flower.
Draw the petals.
To start, let’s map out the general shape of the flower. Using a light pencil, draw a big oil drop in the middle of your paper. This will be the center of the flower. Then, add five petals around it. Make them long and pointy, and taper them towards the tips. You can make them all different lengths, or make them symmetrical.Once you have your basic shape, start drawing the outline of each petal. Make sure to leave some white space in between each line – we’ll need it later!
After you have the basic outline of your petals, start drawing in the details. First, draw a curved line down the center of each petal. Then, on either side of that line, add some smaller curved lines. These will be the center veins of your flower petals.
Next, start drawing in the outermost veins of your flower petals. These lines should be curved and branching off from the main center vein. Fill in as many or as few veins as you’d like – it’s up to you!
Once you’re happy with your flower petals, it’s time to move on to the next step: drawing the leaves!
Color your flower.
Start by giving your flower some basic color. pencil in a light orange for the center, then add some yellow petals around it. To finish up the center, add a dark orange dot in the middle. Now move on to the petals. Using a light green, fill in the biggest outer petals. Next, add some medium sized petals in between the big ones using a darker green. Finally, fill in the very center of the flower with small white petals.
