This addictively delicious recipe for cosmos was given to me by a friend many years ago. I have no idea where she found it, but it has become one of my go-to drinks when I want something special.

What are cosmos?

Cosmos are a genus of annual and perennial flowering plants in the sunflower family. The genus name comes from the Greek word for “ornament,” and these eye-catching blooms certainly live up to their name. Cosmos flowers are daisy-like in appearance, with a wide variety of colors including white, red, pink, purple, and yellow. These flowers are very easy to grow, making them a popular choice for both home gardens and public parks.

The history of cosmos

Few cocktails have as much name recognition as the cosmopolitan. This sassy pink drink, also known as a “cosmo,” has been popular since the 1980s, when it was first mentioned in print. Its popularity exploded in the 1990s thanks to the hit TV show “Sex and the City,” in which the main characters often ordered cosmopolitans at their favorite bar.

While its origins are disputed, most experts agree that the cosmopolitan was created in the 1970s in New York City. There are many different stories about who invented it and where, but one thing is for sure: the cosmopolitan is here to stay.

This girly cocktail is made with vodka, citrus juice, cranberry juice and a float of triple sec or another liqueur. It is typically served in a martini glass, which gives it an air of sophistication. The cosmopolitan is a classic example of a “girl drink,” but don’t let that stop you from enjoying one – it’s delicious no matter who you are!
